This scarce clockwork joke has a precision-made German mechanism, probably from Carl Quehl of Nuremberg. This has been fitted by a British manufacturer into the cigarette box in the 1920s. The clockwork mechanism is wound and the cigarette box placed on a surface. When the victim picks up the box, a special pin drops, triggering the box to vibrate in the strangest manner. This is still fully working and comes with one of our replacement keys. These are unsold shop stock and come in their original outer boxes, the colour of which varies.
This comes with our exclusive OldJokes.co.uk Fact Card on the history of joke manufacturing in Germany.
Condition: Very good, some minor wear and signs of corrosion.
This is a vintage item and is being sold as a collectible, not a toy.
